What is a VW Radio code?
A Volkswagen (VW) radio code is a safety function integrated into many VW car radios during manufacturing. This 4-digit code is designed to prevent unauthorized use of the radio unit. The radio code activates automatically if power to the radio is interrupted, such as when the battery is disconnected or goes flat.
When power is restored, the radio displays a message such as "SAFE", "1000" or "CODE," indicating that the code needs to be entered. This code is usually found in the car's manual or on a separate card. If you've misplaced or don't have access to your radio code, it can be retrieved from a VW dealership or using our online unlocking service.

How to get your VW radio code free
The first place to look for the radio code is in the vehicle's manual or other documentations. It's sometimes located on a card or a sticker in the manual. Check all the papers that came with the vehicle.
Check inside the glovebox or sides.
In some Volkswagen vehicles, you'll find a sticker in the glove box or on the sides of the glove box that contains the radio code. Do make sure to check both sides.
Contact your local dealership or Volkswagen customer service.
If you can't find the radio code in your vehicle's manual or glovebox, your next best option would be to contact a Volkswagen dealer. You may need to provide your vehicle identification number (VIN) and proof of ownership. While some dealerships may charge a fee, many will provide this service for free to their customers. Volkswagen's customer service is also a good option. You can contact them via phone or through their official website. They will ask you for some information about your vehicle, including the VIN, to verify you're the legitimate owner. Once they have verified your ownership, they will provide you with the radio code.
Locating the serial number
Whatever the model, all radios in Volkswagen cars have assigned a unique identification number, which you can use to retrieve the activation code. You can find this number on the labels attached to the side and the top of the box. To see these labels, carefully pull out your radio. Once out, locate the identification number by looking for the format: VWZ1Z1A1234567. Sometimes this number may have a letter at the final, which you need to ignore when getting the code.
How to pull out the radio
Removing a VW radio is easy and usually takes no more than 15 minutes. Preferably, using plastic tools (like these), remove the plastic mould that surrounds the radio. Next, unscrew the four screws that hold the unit and pull it out carefully (so as not to unplug any cables). We recommend that you take photos of both labels before reassembling the radio. For example, you can see these video guides for Polo, Passat and Golf. If your radio model is different, you can find more help on YouTube by looking for the car model you have.

RCD300 / RCD310 / RCD500 / RCD510
How to proceed
Calculate the code for your Volkswagen RCD300 and RCD310 online from the serial number. You can find this identifier on the label attached to the metal box. Sometimes this number is also inscribed into the metal. You must take out the radio to see this info, but do not worry because it is straightforward and you only need a few minutes. You can see how to proceed in these videos for RCD300 and RCD310. Since the label is in view, locate the 14-digit number that begins with VWZ above the barcode. Example: VWZ1Z2K8198892

Get Your VW Radio Code for Free
Getting a Volkswagen code is complicated since it is more complex than looking it up in a list or database. Each serial number is different, which means there are infinite variations. Therefore, getting a code for free is difficult, but if you can't afford it, open the chat and paste the code "FREEVW2076". Our team will know what it is about and will let you know the conditions so you can get your code in less than 30 minutes.

What is a Stereo Code?
The stereo code is a security measure implemented by Volkswagen to protect the radios against malicious use. Over the years, this measure has ceased to be helpful (since no one tries to steal such a unit) but has become a problem for the owners since, in time, the card with the code is lost. You can find more info about codes in this article by Lifewire. In short, you must have the four digits of your code to use the radio after you have locked it. The lock will occur after each power interruption.

My VW Radio Reads "SAFE"
After entering several wrong codes, Volkswagen radios will display the message SAFE or 2 SAFE on the screen. This means you cannot make any more attempts and avoids the possible abuse of trying to guess the radio code. To be able to enter a code again, you must leave the radio powered ON for 60 minutes. The engine doesn't need to be running; leaving the key in the accessory position is sufficient. After this time passes you'll be able to to enter a code again. In the case the radio don't respond, remove the battery connector for half a minute and then try again.

Code Not Working
The codes we generate are the original factory-assigned codes. If the code you received does not work, please get in touch with us and send us a picture of the radio label (where the serial number is visible). We will check that everything is ok and generate another code if that is the case. The factory code will not work in a few instances due to memory tampering (you can see the broken warranty seal). In these cases, the only solution is to read the memory via the DUMP file.

Read Code From DUMP File
If you know how to read your radio's DUMP file, you can get your Volkswagen\s radio code for free even if the memory has been tampered with. We can't help but recommend the Digital Kaos forum radio codes sections. On this forum, several active users will read the code for you in a matter of hours.

How to Extract the Radio Code
The removal process
of a VW radio differs depending on the model and year of manufacture of the car. Usually, you only need a
trim removal tool
and a screwdriver. Use the trim tool to remove the mold surrounding the audio unit to access the four holding screws.
Pull the stereo unit out once these four screws are removed until you can see the sticker on the top or side. We
recommend that you take a picture of this label before reassembling it.
We recommend the use of plastic tools to avoid scratching the radio frames. When removing the radio, do so gently to
avoid disconnecting any wires.

Sound Not Working
It is possible that after activation of the radio, everything works correctly except that you cannot hear anything in the speakers. This problem is mainly due to the speaker connector being unplugged. In this case, you should remove the unit again and ensure all connectors are properly plugged in. If you cannot do so, we recommend seeing a professional.
